A mover's year: what to do, month by month
A mover's year is anything but flat: it revolves around July 1, month-ends, the back-to-school period and winter storms. Here is a month-by-month calendar drawn from the seasons observed in the trade, with what Remy, the Orvel agent, can prepare and follow up for you. Nothing here promises a result: these are planning benchmarks.
January to March: the winter lull and the cold snaps
Residential demand slows down in winter. It is a good time to prospect businesses, offices and storage, and to follow up with past customers. Remy can prepare those follow-ups, but only for customers who have consented, with an unsubscribe link.
January and February are also among the months of deep cold and storms: cold and snow multiply breakdowns and road exits. If you offer towing or roadside assistance, keep the list of on-call dispatchers up to date and answer requests quickly. Remy takes calls 24/7, collects the address, the vehicle and the situation, then passes to the dispatcher, without promising any delay or rate.
April and May: preparing for the July 1 season
Most residential leases end at the end of June, so demand concentrates around July 1. May is the month for the early booking campaign: the standard message invites customers, or people around them, to book early, since July dates go fast.
April is for preparation. Review your calendar of crews and trucks, plan for extra crews, and check that the consents on your contact list are in order before sending anything.
June and July: the peak of the season
This is the full season. A waiting list for fully booked dates becomes useful: if a date frees up because a quote went unanswered, you can offer it to the next customer. Your priority: clear quotes, written confirmations and a reliable calendar.
Remy keeps the pace with its follow-ups: two days after a quote is sent, then a reminder after five days without a reply. The day before each move, it reminds the customer of the arrival time, access, elevator and keys. Moving day leaves a record: condition of the premises, valuables, remarks.
August and September: back to school and student moves
Students and newcomers settle in before classes start. This period suits offers for small moves and short-term storage. Storage spaces have a duration and a renewal: Remy can remind the customer before the due date, using the renewal email designed for that.
It is also the time to request the reviews left pending after the busy season. About three days after a move, the review request goes out automatically in Remy's journey.
October to December: review, storage and the return of the cold
Autumn is a good time to review the season: quotes sent versus dates confirmed, reviews obtained, fully booked dates. These benchmarks come from the indicators tracked in the software, such as the confirmation rate and the quotes awaiting an answer.
From November and December, the cold returns and with it towing requests. Go back over the list of on-call dispatchers and make sure everyone knows their role. Also check the registration and renewal deadlines noted in your company notes.
All year: the end-of-month peak
Whatever the season, moves concentrate at the end of the month, when leases and sales close. The routine: follow up on pending quotes from mid-month and block crews for the last days.
Add a short weekly review: requests of the week, quotes awaiting an answer, upcoming confirmed dates. A regular check of file quality avoids discovering an oversight on moving day.
Planning by season lets you arrive prepared for July 1 as well as for the February lull. Remy prepares and follows up; you decide the rest.
