A shop's year: what to do, month by month
A shop lives by its occasions: a handful of dates account for a large share of the year. This calendar follows the seven main periods of retail, giving the reason and the action for each. The Zoé agent prepares reminders and lists; you set the deadlines, the prices and the messages.
January and February: Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day falls on February 14: flowers, jewelry and gifts are mostly ordered the week before. January is therefore the time to prepare the campaign rather than endure it.
The recommended action: write to customers from past Valentine's Days, with valid consent, and display a waiting list and order deadlines. Zoé can prepare the message and maintain the list; you validate the deadlines the shop is able to meet.
March and April: Easter and spring
The date of Easter changes every year. Gifts and seasonal arrangements are prepared a few weeks ahead, which makes March a useful transition month.
The action: check this year's date on the calendar and announce the seasonal new arrivals. A generic tip: use this calmer period to update your quote templates and customer files. Quiet weeks are also the right time to decide, calmly, which products you can realistically deliver at peak times and which you would rather not offer in the rush.
April and May: Mother's Day
In Canada, Mother's Day is the second Sunday of May. Special orders arrive mostly in the last few days, which concentrates the pressure on a short period.
The action: a reminder to last year's customers in early April, and a list of deliveries by time window. This is when the handover confirmation rule (address, delivery window, pickup time) is worth the most. Zoé promises no delivery date: you confirm the windows. Think about who can answer the phone on those last days, because a list of deliveries is only useful if someone is available to adjust it.
June: Father's Day and graduations
Father's Day is the third Sunday of June, at the same time as many graduations. Gift occasions multiply within a few weeks.
The action: a campaign of gift ideas and gift cards. Before setting an expiry date or fees, check the rules with the Office de la protection du consommateur (Quebec's consumer protection office), https://www.opc.gouv.qc.ca/.
May through September: wedding season
Couples book their flowers, jewelry and thank-you gifts well before the date, and this season overlaps with the others.
The action: follow every wedding quote through to the deposit, then confirm the details a few weeks beforehand. A generic tip: keep one file per wedding, with preferences, address and the person receiving, so no information sleeps in a messaging thread. Weddings also tend to involve several people, so noting who receives the order and who approves the details saves back-and-forth later.
October and November: preparing for Christmas
Special orders, corporate gifts and baskets are placed early in the fall. Shops that wait until December find themselves in the rush.
The action: invite last year's customers to reserve their date and quantity before the December rush. A promotional reminder goes out only with valid consent, under Canada's anti-spam legislation; see https://crtc.gc.ca/fra/internet/anti.htm.
November and December: the holidays and gift cards
December concentrates gift and gift-card sales, and local deliveries fill up.
The action: promote gift cards, then set the last order and delivery dates before Christmas. After the holidays, take the time to review the customer list: delete what is no longer useful and honor opt-out requests, in line with the guidance of the Commission d'accès à l'information (Quebec's privacy commission), https://www.cai.gouv.qc.ca/protection-renseignements-personnels/.
The big dates are no surprise: they come back every year. With a calendar and reminders prepared ahead of time, the shop reaches the holidays ahead rather than behind.

Questions
When should I start preparing for Mother's Day?
A reminder to last year's customers is recommended in early April, since special orders arrive mostly in the last few days before the second Sunday of May.
Can Zoé guarantee a delivery date during the rush?
No. She promises no delivery date. She maintains the list of deliveries by time window, but the shop does the confirming.
Why start Christmas as early as October?
Special orders, corporate gifts and baskets are placed early in the fall: inviting customers to reserve before the December rush helps spread the workload. It also gives the shop a clearer picture of quantities before the busiest weeks begin.
