Text messages, personal information and reviews
Quebec trade rule for garages and auto repair.
The rule
The estimate requested by the customer and the “vehicle ready” notice do not require prior consent (Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation, Loi canadienne anti-pourriel, CASL/LCAP, art. 6(6)a) and b)); neither does warranty, recall or safety information about a service the customer has obtained (art. 6(6)c)). A promotion requires express or implied consent (art. 10(9)a)). Rex collects only what the appointment needs (Quebec's Law 25, art. 5). For reviews, Google's rules prohibit offering an incentive in exchange for a review or soliciting positive reviews selectively, and the Competition Bureau (Bureau de la concurrence) reminds businesses that an employee who posts a review must disclose their connection to the business.
