A typical day

Yes, an AI can book appointments for a hair or beauty salon: when every pair of hands is busy, Mia answers the phone, books into the right stylist's openings for the right service and the right duration, confirms by text, sends the reminder and records everything in your CRM. Questions about skin, allergies and health always go to your team.

Trade rules in Quebec, followed by Mia

Before-and-after photos

the client's consent first: The Civil Code of Québec (Code civil du Québec) protects privacy (art. 35) and considers it an invasion of privacy to use a person's image for any purpose other than the legitimate information of the public (art. 36, 5°). Consent under Quebec's Law 25 must be manifest, free, informed and given for specific purposes (art. 14). Mia prepares your posts and you approve them; above all, obtain the client's written consent for each use, for example Instagram and your website.

Allergies, skin, pregnancy

sensitive information: Information is sensitive when, by its nature, particularly medical, it gives rise to a high degree of reasonable expectation of privacy (art. 12). Using it for a purpose other than the one for which it was collected requires express consent. Mia collects only what the appointment needs (art. 5), gives no medical advice on skin or allergies, and these notes are never used for promotions.

Medical-aesthetic care

assessment before treatment: The Collège des médecins (Quebec's College of Physicians) and the OIIQ (Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec, Quebec's order of nurses) reminded the public (May 30, 2024) that anyone who wants medical-aesthetic care must first have an individual assessment so that a diagnosis can be made and a treatment plan established. If physicians, nurses or other professionals practise on their own account in your clinic, it may also be a private professional practice within the meaning of the Act respecting health and social services information (Loi sur les renseignements de santé et de services sociaux) (Schedule II): have your case validated by your professional order or your advisor.

Reminders, return visits and promotions by text message

Reminding a client of an appointment she made does not require prior consent (art. 6(6)b) of Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation, Loi canadienne anti-pourriel, CASL/LCAP). An invitation to come back or an offer is a promotion: express consent, or implied consent for a client who bought a service from you in the last two years (art. 10(9)a) and 10(10)a)). Each message identifies the salon and offers a way to unsubscribe (art. 6(2)).

Online reviews and language of service

Google's rules prohibit offering an incentive in exchange for a review and soliciting positive reviews selectively; the Competition Bureau (Bureau de la concurrence) reminds businesses that an employee who posts a review must disclose their connection to the salon. Clients also have the right to be informed and served in French (art. 5 of the Charter of the French Language, Charte de la langue française).
